As a Train Conductor, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe, efficient, and smooth operation of our passenger train services. From assisting the train driver to engaging with passengers and enforcing travel regulations, your contribution will be essential to our commitment to excellence in railway service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Operational Efficiency

  • Participate actively in the day-to-day running of the train, ensuring all operations adhere strictly to the company’s safety protocols.

  • Support the train driver with operational tasks that promote seamless travel and safe navigation.

  • Monitor train conditions during travel and promptly communicate any abnormalities to relevant personnel.

2. Safety and Security

  • Enforce all safety regulations and procedures onboard the train, ensuring both passengers and crew operate within established guidelines.

  • Remain vigilant at all times to identify and respond to safety hazards or security concerns.

  • Assist in the coordination of emergency responses if required, including evacuations, health incidents, or train disruptions.

3. Customer Interaction and Support

  • Serve as the first point of contact for passenger enquiries, delivering prompt, accurate, and courteous responses.

  • Educate passengers about onboard services and ensure they feel welcomed and safe throughout the journey.

  • Resolve minor complaints or issues raised by customers, and escalate more serious matters when necessary.

4. Ticket Verification

  • Verify the validity of passenger tickets and ensure compliance with travel regulations.

  • Provide guidance and assistance for passengers with invalid or incorrect tickets, helping them understand company policy.

5. Incident Investigation Support

  • Contribute to investigations regarding operational or safety-related incidents involving trains.

  • Provide factual reports, observations, and other assistance as required by the investigation team.

6. Additional Duties

  • Carry out any other operational or support functions assigned by supervisors or the Controller, as needed to ensure smooth train functioning.

Minimum Requirements

  • Educational Qualification:

    • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate or an equivalent qualification (e.g., GED, A Levels, GCSE).

  • Driver’s License:

    • A valid South African driver’s license is required for this role.

  • Medical and Psychometric Tests:

    • Successful applicants must undergo psychometric assessments and medical examinations to confirm fitness for duty.

  • Language Proficiency:

    • Fluency in English is essential, both verbal and written, as it is the primary language used for communication and safety instruction on duty.

  • Experience:

    • While this is an entry-level role, a minimum of 1–2 years’ work experience in any professional setting (preferably in customer service, transport, or safety-driven environments) will be advantageous.
