Job Purpose

To ensure the safety and security of SARB personnel, facilities, and assets at the Head Office by executing comprehensive security functions in alignment with national regulations and SARB protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Enforce access and exit controls in designated areas.

  • Conduct patrolling, escorting, and static guarding duties.

  • Detect, respond to, and report all security and emergency threats or irregularities.

  • Operate and monitor security systems and equipment effectively.

  • Participate in and facilitate evacuations and emergency drills.

  • Maintain accurate and timely administrative records (e.g., reports, digital occurrence books, pocketbooks).

  • Continuously enhance knowledge of security operations and proactively seek improvements.

Qualifications and Experience: Security Official

Minimum Requirements:

  • Grade 12 certificate or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification.

  • PSIRA Grade C registration.

  • Firearm competency certification (9mm pistol, shotgun, semi-automatic rifle).

  • 2–5 years of security-related experience.

  • Strong understanding of applicable legislation (e.g., NKP Act, Firearms Control Act, Criminal Procedure Act).

  • High levels of physical, psychological, and medical fitness.

  • Willingness to work extended hours, shifts, weekends, and public holidays as operationally required.

Behavioral and Technical Competencies: Security Official

  • Discipline and professionalism.

  • Ability to handle stress and work under pressure.

  • Strong adherence to procedures and values.

  • Effective communication, writing, and reporting skills.

  • Ability to adapt and respond to changes.

Preferred (Added Advantages): Security Official

  • Completed National Key Point (NKP) training.

Answer:

Answer:
Professionalism means maintaining discipline, integrity, and confidentiality at all times. It involves representing the organization respectfully, following procedures precisely, and responding calmly under pressure—especially in sensitive or emergency situations.

3. How do you handle unauthorized access or a breach at a controlled entry point?
Answer:
I would first assess the situation to determine the level of threat. I would follow protocol by alerting control and detaining the individual if safe and authorized to do so. I would document the incident accurately and support any investigation with full reports and system logs.

4. Describe your experience with operating and monitoring security systems.
Answer:
I have hands-on experience with CCTV monitoring, access control systems, and alarm responses. I’ve used these systems to identify suspicious activity, verify personnel identity, and ensure perimeter security. I am familiar with maintaining logs and reporting anomalies in real time.

5. What would you do during a fire or bomb threat evacuation?
Answer:
I would immediately initiate the evacuation procedure as outlined in the SARB’s emergency protocol. My priorities would be safety, communication, and coordination. I’d guide personnel to assembly points, assist individuals needing help, and report to the designated emergency response leader.

Firearm and Tactical Readiness Questions

6. Are you comfortable carrying and using a firearm? What training do you have?
Answer:
Yes, I am certified in the use of 9mm pistols, shotguns, and semi-automatic rifles. I have completed competency training and maintain regular practice to ensure safe and effective handling in line with the Firearms Control Act.

7. Have you ever encountered a situation where you had to physically intervene? How did you handle it?
Answer:
Yes, in a previous role I intercepted a suspect attempting to bypass a security checkpoint. I followed training by using verbal commands first, then restrained the individual with minimum force until backup arrived. I later completed a full incident report.

Answer:
I keep detailed notes in my pocketbook during or immediately after incidents. I cross-check facts before submitting electronic occurrence logs and use clear, concise language to ensure reports are factual and actionable.

Answer:
The NKP Act outlines the protection of critical infrastructure and institutions like SARB. It mandates enhanced security measures, authorized access control, and specific procedures for response to threats or unauthorized activities. Compliance is mandatory and vital to national security.

Answer:
